Many Correfoc and Diables infuse energy and vitality into Catalan festivities. Naturally, Barcelona is no exception. Over recent years, I have captured images of these groups at various neighborhood celebrations and other cultural events.
My photographs of the Correfoc highlight the sheer visual appeal and beauty of this expression of Catalan culture. The rich symbolism evident in the Correfocs and the Diables, from the opening of Hell's Gate to conclude the Festival of Mercy in September, to the neighborhood festivals in autumn, infuses a special magic into the series of images I produced throughout 2022.
FOR THE years of 2022 and 2023, I have been documenting various groups across Barcelona, creating a distinct record of their activities not only in the city but throughout Catalunya.
